Former boxer Troy “Chase” Corbin (8-0, 7 KOs), when he learned about the boxing business, gave up trying to reach stardom as an athlete. Streetfighter, in his neighbourhood, West Philly, in Philadelphia, got to know boxing while accompanying a friend who attended a gym in the city. Chase Corbin quickly fell in love with the sport, and a few months later he was involved in amateur fights.
After the professionalization that took place in 2009, Corbin caught the attention of Jeff Mayweather, who considered him with talent that resembled Thomas Hearns, and started to train the athlete in the last fights. At the time, Corbin sparring with good boxers like Demetrius Hopkins and Mickey Bey, which helped a lot in his development. At this early stage in professionalism, he met the real estate entrepreneur, Jared Weiss, who served as the boxer’s manager. Weiss was sympathetic to the fighter and allowed Troy Corbin to work in his office.
The entrepreneur, more than teaching the intricacies of the real estate business and introducing him to this segment, sparked Troy Corbim’s business acumen. Chase Corbin explains that he quickly realized that the boxer in the United States gets the least part of the gains: 33.3% is for the manager, 10% for the coach, 2% for the technical assistance and the income tax takes 30% of the that remains. The percentages cited by the ex-boxer, except for individual boxers, are very close to reality.
Corbin decided to abandon boxing. Long before, he had noticed the Philadelfiense taste for ice cream of Italian origin. For years he planned, created his recipes with 40 different flavours and financed the factory with the resources obtained in the real estate market.
Troy Corbin created his brand – PhillyFreezeMe – and opened a store in Las Vegas. PhillyFreezeMe is also present in restaurants and festivals, whether food or not. Also, it has formatted a franchise model that already has the first associates. Success factors of its products are the flavours and do not contain alcohol, gluten, dairy, cholesterol, fat or sodium. The quality of the company as a whole has already rewarded Corbin on two occasions and is the cover story for May in Las Vegas Entrepreneurs Magazine.
